Picnic in the Meadow

A midsummer feast in a Lake District meadow

There are few better ways to enjoy a summer afternoon than tucking into a home-made picnic in a beautiful wildflower meadow.

Set within Racy Ghyll Farm, the working family home of traditional farmer and acclaimed author James Rebanks, Picnic in the Meadow is a brand new Mini Exped to show how the return of traditional farming practices can help nature thrive.

Local botanist and conservationist Rob Dixon of Wild Lakeland joins Wild Intrigue to offer a fascinating insight into the rich diversity of Racy Ghyll’s wildflowers, sharing his expertise on identification as he guides you through the summer meadow in bloom. Wild Intrigue will share how the abundance and diversity of wildflowers is not only beautiful, its vital to help support wildlife; from pollinators to birds, you will be introduced to an array of species that call Racy Ghyll home.

Having leisurely explored the meadow, you will be guided to your group’s al fresco dining table within the meadow, where a home-made picnic crafted by Helen Rebanks will be waiting to be enjoyed as the discussion continues.

Picnic in the Meadow is a truly unique experience for those wishing to enjoy an afternoon immersed in traditional culture and flourishing nature in a beautiful corner of the Lake District National Park.

We are proud to support Racy Ghyll Farm through this Mini Exped, each ticket sold will contribute to supporting this nature friendly farm.

James Rebanks is author of The Shepherds Life (2016) and English Pastoral (2020). Please note that James and Helen Rebanks are understandably very busy people, so they may not be available during this event.
