Wild Intrigue’s Dawn Chorus Disco is an opportunity to become immersed in the heart of the live Ouseburn orchestra\, and to appreciate each of the individual songsters taking part.  \n\n\n\nUsing a single parabolic dish\, your Wild Intrigue Guide will take you on an acoustic safari like no other\, bringing the incredible intricacies of each birdsong straight to your ears through wireless headphones as you slowly water through the valley at sunrise. In isolation from the rest of the Dawn Chorus\, every one of the 64 notes in a Wren’s song will pop\, the repertoire of the Song Thrush will become even brighter\, and the aria of the Blackcap will be distinguished from its scratchy beginnings.  \n\n\n\nThe real magic of this wildlife experience is that it takes place in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne\, in the wild corridors of the post-industrial culture-hotspot of Ouseburn Valley. From familiar curb-side Feral Pigeons\, to awe-inspiring Peregrine Falcons\, which sit atop bridges\, viewing the city like magnificent gargoyles.  \n\n\n\nThe River Tyne was once a heavily polluted\, industrial river\, but now you can see Otters and Grey Seals feeding in the river\, Kittiwakes breeding on the stunning architecture and iconic Tyne Bridge\, Shelduck\, Teal\, and Redshank foraging amongst Dunston Staiths and a whole host of other species. \n\n\n\nJoin a Wild Intrigue guide for a journey along the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside\, to discover the wildlife that calls this city home. DESCRIPTION:Amongst the spectacular architecture of Newcastle\, incredible wildness can be found in our everyday explorations of the city. \n\n\n\nBetween Newcastle and Gateshead runs the tidal vein of the River Tyne. With its comings and goings between sea and land\, the scenery of the urban Quayside is ever-changing\, and so too is the wildlife which lives within and alongside it. \n\n\n\nOur Quayside is renowned as being home to the world’s most inland breeding colony of Black-legged Kittiwakes\, but also an incredible array of other\, perhaps surprising\, species. From familiar curb-side Feral Pigeons\, to awe-inspiring Peregrine Falcons\, which sit atop bridges\, viewing the city like magnificent gargoyles.  \n\n\n\nThe River Tyne was once a heavily polluted\, industrial river\, but now you can see Otters and Grey Seals feeding in the river\, Kittiwakes breeding on the stunning architecture and iconic Tyne Bridge\, Shelduck\, Teal\, and Redshank foraging amongst Dunston Staiths and a whole host of other species. \n\n\n\nJoin a Wild Intrigue guide for a journey along the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside\, to discover the wildlife that calls this city home. You’ll discover the history of the River Tyne\, and how its industrial past has shaped the wildlife that can now be found in the heart of this urban landscape. \n\n\n\nThis walking tour will be approximately 5 miles long\, following footpaths along the River Tyne. We’ll stop for lunch along the banks of the river to enjoy a delicious packed lunch from local social enterprise\, Big River Bakery.

From bumblebees to leafcutter bees\, our wilder urban spaces can support a variety of bees and pollinators. Join us in search of Ouseburn’s bees!  \n\n\n\nYou will learn how to recognise some of the bees likely to be found in your gardens and local green spaces. Along the way we will record what bees we spot together\, helping to better understand how to protect and support Ouseburn’s wild bees. \n\n\n\nJoin us to discover what bees are buzzing their way through Wild Ouseburn! \n\n\n\nThis walk is ideal for beginners but all experience levels are very welcome. \n\n\n\nWe’ll be guided by Charlotte Rankin\, a local naturalist with a particular passion for bees. Just across the border in Cumbria\, she works in pollinator conservation for a local wildlife charity. In her spare time\, she enjoys recording wildlife and volunteers for the Natural History Society of Northumbria’s Invertebrate Specialist Group. \n\n\n\nNo booking required\, just meet outside of The Cycle Hub for 11am.

SUMMARY:Wetland Bird Survey - Breeding Birds Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Over the next year the Wild Ouseburn project will be developing a series of surveys across the project area. The surveys will follow seasonal changes of species and follow existing methodologies. The results gathered will help build a better picture of the wildlife in the area\, enabling us to better conserve and enhance habitats and species\, boosting the vibrant biodiversity of Wild Ouseburn! \n\n\n\nThe Wetlands Bird Survey has been underway for three weeks now\, with the Spring breeding season now upon us it’s time to record some extra data. This training workshop will be a top-up session for existing surveyors\, to identify the signs of breeding behaviour\, and how to record broods of young birds.  \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet outside the Cycle Hub for 9am\, new survey sheets will be provided. \n\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to start getting involved in wildlife surveying through Wild Ouseburn\, or are intrigued and would like to simply find out more you can get in touch with us here. \n\n\n\nPlease note that you do not need to have prior knowledge of birds to take part in these surveys. \n\n\n\nCan’t make the workshop dates? DESCRIPTION:Amongst the spectacular architecture of Newcastle\, incredible wildness can be found in our everyday explorations of the city. \n\n\n\nBetween Newcastle and Gateshead runs the tidal vein of the River Tyne. With its comings and goings between sea and land\, the scenery of the urban Quayside is ever-changing\, and so too is the wildlife which lives within and alongside it. \n\n\n\nOur Quayside is renowned as being home to the world’s most inland breeding colony of Black-legged Kittiwakes\, but also an incredible array of other\, perhaps surprising\, species. From familiar curb-side Feral Pigeons\, to awe-inspiring Peregrine Falcons\, which sit atop bridges\, viewing the city like magnificent gargoyles.  \n\n\n\nThe River Tyne was once a heavily polluted\, industrial river\, but now you can see Otters and Grey Seals feeding in the river\, Kittiwakes breeding on the stunning architecture and iconic Tyne Bridge\, Shelduck\, Teal\, and Redshank foraging amongst Dunston Staiths and a whole host of other species. \n\n\n\nJoin a Wild Intrigue guide for a journey along the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside\, to discover the wildlife that calls this city home. You’ll discover the history of the River Tyne\, and how its industrial past has shaped the wildlife that can now be found in the heart of this urban landscape. \n\n\n\nThis walking tour will be approximately 5 miles long\, following footpaths along the River Tyne. We’ll stop for lunch along the banks of the river to enjoy a delicious packed lunch from local social enterprise\, Big River Bakery.

SUMMARY:Urban Bird Walk - Cycle Hub
DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore and document the urban birds of Wild Ouseburn. Urban Bird Walks will take place at various locations across the project area to discover and document the wonderful array of bird species. We will be recording all of our sightings for the Wild Ouseburn project\, so it’s an excellent chance to learn about wildlife recording alongside bird identification. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a keen beginner\, or an expert birder\, you’re welcome to join us! All of the data we gather will help protect and enhance the wildlife in the Lower Ouseburn Valley\, and help inform future management of wild spaces in the project area. \n\n\n\nFree for everyone to attend. No need to book a space\, just come along to the meeting point for the start time. Binoculars and identification guides will be available for use. Meet outside the Cycle Hub on 29th January for a 9am start.
