SUMMARY:Quayside Wildlife Safari
DESCRIPTION:Amongst the spectacular architecture of Newcastle\, incredible wildness can be found in our everyday explorations of the city. \n\n\n\nBetween Newcastle and Gateshead runs the tidal vein of the River Tyne. With its comings and goings between sea and land\, the scenery of the urban Quayside is ever-changing\, and so too is the wildlife which lives within and alongside it. \n\n\n\nOur Quayside is renowned as being home to the world’s most inland breeding colony of Black-legged Kittiwakes\, but also an incredible array of other\, perhaps surprising\, species. From familiar curb-side Feral Pigeons\, to awe-inspiring Peregrine Falcons\, which sit atop bridges\, viewing the city like magnificent gargoyles.  \n\n\n\nThe River Tyne was once a heavily polluted\, industrial river\, but now you can see Otters and Grey Seals feeding in the river\, Kittiwakes breeding on the stunning architecture and iconic Tyne Bridge\, Shelduck\, Teal\, and Redshank foraging amongst Dunston Staiths and a whole host of other species. \n\n\n\nJoin a Wild Intrigue guide for a journey along the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside\, to discover the wildlife that calls this city home. You’ll discover the history of the River Tyne\, and how its industrial past has shaped the wildlife that can now be found in the heart of this urban landscape. \n\n\n\nThis walking tour will be approximately 5 miles long\, following footpaths along the River Tyne. We’ll stop for lunch along the banks of the river to enjoy a delicious packed lunch from local social enterprise\, Big River Bakery.

SUMMARY:Ouseburn Bat Safari
DESCRIPTION:Discover Ouseburn’s real night life!\n\nJoin Wild Intrigue on an urban wildlife safari to discover intriguing creatures of the night in Newcastle City’s lively hub\, Ouseburn. \n\n\n\nSetting off at sunset with bat detectors in hand\, Wild Intrigue will guide you on a journey to track bats down as they emerge from their roosts for ‘breakfast’. Bat detectors bring a whole new level to spying on these elusive mammals\, allowing you to eavesdrop on their ultrasound clicks\, slaps and pops as they hunt and communicate with each other. \n\n\n\nNow more than ever\, bats suffer from a bad rep across the world. But these amazing animals have cruised our skies for tens of millions of years – way before the first humans took their first steps. So join us to find out all about the bizarre anatomy and curious ecology of some of our longest-evolved mammals\, right here in Ouseburn. \n\n\n\nA percentage of profits from our Ouseburn Bat Safaris are put back into helping to conserve the bats in the valley.
