This beautiful spot is set in the heart of Northumberland National Park\, on the edge of Kielder Forest\, beneath the enchanting celestial blanket of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. \n\n\n\nUpon arriving at the Swallow Hut you will be greeted by your Wild Intrigue guides\, who will escort you to your al fresco dining table for the evening. Don’t let anyone tell you that nights in nature can’t be a tad fancy.  Once you’ve grabbed your first bottomless hot or cold drink of the night\, the fun begins as Wild Intrigue guide you into making your own stone-baked pizza\, with delicious pre-made dough. Which toppings will you choose? \n\n\n\nPlates emptied\, you will embark on a guided exploration of the crepuscular wildlife on site emerging with the setting sun. Perhaps you’ll hear Tawny Owls calling\, Roe Deer barking\, or the Blackbird’s bedtime melody. \n\n\n\nA cosy campfire will be waiting back at the Swallow Hut ready to toast marshmallows\, with a hot chocolate of course. As the sun dips\, you will set off on a Bat Safari to track down bats emerging from their roosts on the hunt for breakfast. DESCRIPTION:Explore Northumberland’s wild winter wonders\n\n\n\nJoin Wild Intrigue and the Northumberland National Park astronomy team to discover the wild wonders of winter\, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Northumberland International Dark Sky Park‘s pioneering accreditation. \n\n\n\nNorthumberland is renowned and accredited for having the most pristine dark skies in England\, offering spectacular opportunities for stargazing\, particularly throughout autumn and winter. \n\n\n\nWith your feet firmly on the ground\, you will embark on an exploration of the Dark Sky Park in a fascinating\, expert-led stargazing workshop\, to explore the celestial blanket above with guided use of special telescopic equipment.  \n\n\n\nYou will take a short\, guided\, starlit stroll through Walltown to discover the intriguing ways wildlife benefits from dark skies\, and how different local animals cope through the winter months.  \n\n\n\nThroughout the evening you will be able to enjoy the warmth of Walltown’s cosy indoor room\, with hot chocolate and a wood-burner to keep you toasty. Here\, you will also discover how you can help to protect our dark skies and nocturnal wildlife\, in illustrated talks by Duncan Wise from the Northumberland National Park and Wild Intrigue. \n\n\n\nThis event is most suitable for ages 11 and above\, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder.  Please note that dogs are not permitted on this event. SUMMARY:OUSEBURN DARK SKIES | Why Dark Skies Matter: Talk & Stargazing with Duncan Wise
DESCRIPTION:An evening exploring our place in the universe\n\n\n\nWe are thrilled to welcome wonderful Duncan Wise from Northumberland National Park\, for our final Ouseburn Wild Talk of the season. \n\n\n\nDuncan was instrumental in securing International Dark Park status for Northumberland National Park in 2013\, and has continued to be a passionate advocate of its continued protection and exploration. This winter was the 10th Anniversary of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park\, and we are delighted to celebrate this by welcoming Duncan to Ouseburn to share the magnificence of the universe with us. \n\n\n\nIn his fascinating talk\, Duncan will share his expert tips into how – even in the city – we can better conserve our dark skies for wildlife\, and our own health and wellbeing. We will also delve into the various ways to enjoy stargazing; from specialist apps to discovering some of the best locations to become immersed in the star-dusted night-sky. \n\n\n\nWeather permitting\, Duncan will also host a guided stargazing session in the Ouseburn Woods under the bridges\, with the use of Northumberland National Park’s telescopes. Fingers crossed for clear skies…. \n\n\n\nIf you are unable to attend the stargazing session\, you are very welcome to just come along to the talk.  \n\n\n\nThis event will also welcome in the launch of Ouseburn Dark Skies\, a long weekend celebrating our nocturnal wildlife and exploring ways to protect our dark skies for wildlife and people. Ouseburn Dark Skies is part of the Wild Ouseburn project. \n\n\n\nHosted in the beautiful Ouseburn Farm meeting room on Thursday 21st March 2024.
