Grow your skills and capture the beauty of nature in Northumberland on our autumn Introduction to Wildlife Photography workshop at National Trust Wallington. \n\n\n\nOn this hands-on workshop\, guided by award-winning wildlife photographer Cain Scrimgeour (Wild Intrigue Co-Director)\, you will learn how to compose captivating images by combining skills in ethical fieldcraft\, engaging narrative\, composition and exposure\, as well as plenty of opportunities to become accustomed to your camera and its settings. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a beginner or want to sharpen your existing skills\, you’ll leave with the confidence and experience to capture beautiful photographs. \n\n\n\nHighlights of this workshop include: \n\n\n\n– Learn from a local\, expert wildlife photographer \n\n– Discover techniques to take stunning wildlife and landscape photographs \n\n– Practice in the beautiful Wallington estate \n\n– Small group size for personalised guidance \n\n– Complimentary same-day access to the NT Wallington estate \n\n\n\nThis Wild Intrigue workshop is in partnership with National Trust Wallington\, we are delighted to have special access into the estate to host this experience.  \n\n\n\nWe’re pleased to host this experience as part of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and Parker Harris Earth Photo Exhibition 2024\, which NT Wallington are hosting between 14th September to 3rd November. \n\n\n\nSuitable for ages 16 and above\, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder. DESCRIPTION:Explore Northumberland’s wild winter wonders\n\n\n\nJoin Wild Intrigue and the Northumberland National Park astronomy team to discover the wild wonders of winter beneath the blanket of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. \n\n\n\nNorthumberland is renowned and accredited for having the most pristine dark skies in England\, offering spectacular opportunities for stargazing\, particularly throughout autumn and winter. \n\n\n\nWith your feet firmly on the ground\, you will embark on an exploration of the Dark Sky Park in a fascinating\, expert-led stargazing workshop\, to explore the celestial blanket above with guided use of special telescopic equipment.  \n\n\n\nUnder Wild Intrigue’s guidance\, you will take a short\, starlit stroll through Walltown Country Park to discover the intriguing ways wildlife benefits from dark skies\, and how different local animals cope through the winter months. \n\n\n\nThroughout the evening you will be able to enjoy the warmth of Walltown’s cosy indoor room\, with hot chocolate and a wood-burner to keep you toasty. Here\, you will also discover how you can help to protect our dark skies and nocturnal wildlife\, in illustrated talks by Duncan Wise from the Northumberland National Park and Wild Intrigue. \n\n\n\nTICKETS £15 per person. \n\n\n\nThis event is most suitable for ages 11 and above\, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder.  Please note that dogs are not permitted on this event. DESCRIPTION:In the rolling Cheviot Hills of Northumberland National Park\, legendary creatures dwell; the Cheviot Goats. \n\n\n\nStep back in time to the ancient lands of the Border Reivers on this guided Wild Intrigue experience\, to discover these long-lived inhabitants from the times of early Neolithic farmers and the Monks of Lindisfarne. \n\n\n\nCheviot Goats are members of one of the oldest herds of wild animals in Britain; magnificent\, shaggy beasts steeped in fascinating history\, folklore and ecology which you will discover within the stunning landscape of the College Valley. \n\n\n\nHaving tracked and spent time watching Cheviot Goat billies\, nannies and kids\, you will take in breath-taking views of the College Valley whilst enjoying a two course\, al fresco gourmet meal\, prepared by local chef Chris Reay of Fells Kitchen. \n\n\n\nThis guided experience is a unique opportunity to discover the historic roots and future of one of Britain’s most ancient\, wild herds. You will find out how the local Cheviot Goat Management Group\, a collaboration between landowners\, farmers\, researchers and the National Park\, are working together to protect the future of this rare\, native breed.  \n\n\n\nWe are proud to support the work of the Cheviot Goat Management Group\, a percentage of our profits from this experience will be donated to contribute to their important work. The past two seasons we have donated approximately £200 to the group thanks to attendees.

This beautiful spot is set in the heart of Northumberland National Park on the edge of Kielder Forest\, beneath the enchanting celestial blanket of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. \n\n\n\nUpon arriving at the Swallow Hut you will be greeted by your Wild Intrigue guides\, who will escort you to your al fresco dining table for the night. Once you’ve grabbed your first bottomless hot or cold drink of the night\, the fun begins as Wild Intrigue guide you into making your own stone-baked pizza\, with delicious dough. Which toppings will you choose? \n\n\n\nPlates emptied\, you’ll set off to explore the beautiful Wild Northumbrian meadow to discover creaturesemerging as the sun begins to set. Perhaps you’ll hear Tawny Owls calling\, Roe Deer barking\, or the Blackbird’s bedtime melody. \n\n\n\nA cosy campfire will be waiting back at the Swallow Hut ready to toast marshmallows to enjoy with a hot chocolate. As the sun dips below the horizon\, you’ll finally embark on a Bat Safari to track down bats emerging from their roosts. With bat detectors in hand you’ll be able to eavesdrop on these elusive creatures of the night\, picking up their echolocation on route.
