DESCRIPTION:Discover bats & build a roost box!\n\n\n\nCome join us (Wild Intrigue and Nick James Design) at The Hut on the Green for a fun and family-friendly evening all about our fascinating nocturnal neighbours—bats! These amazing creatures come to life after sunset\, silently swooping through the night to play their crucial role in our ecosystem. Did you know that tiny Pipistrelle bats can munch through around 3\,000 insects in just one night? Or that the bigger Noctule bats love to hang out in big old trees? \n\n\n\nAt our Bat Chat & Habitat event\, you’ll get to discover the wonderful world of bats with a lively\, illustrated talk by Wild Intrigue. You’ll learn all about British bat ecology\, their intriguing history\, and what we can do to help protect them. Then\, get hands-on with Nick James as you and your family do some wood work and work together to make your very own bat roost box! \n\n\n\nHere’s the best part: we’ll be using wood from one of the trees that recently fell in Gosforth Central Park\, right near the café. So\, you’ll be creating something for the park\, in the park\, with wood from the park. How cool is that!? \n\n\n\nAfterward\, we’ll head out on a Bat Safari to listen in on these mysterious creatures with acoustic detectors. It’s a fantastic way to experience the magic of bats right in your own community. \n\n\n\nThis event is perfect for families! Adults and children will work together to create one bat box per ticket purchased. Please note\, all children must bring an adult with them and be supervised by an adult at all times during the event. Suitable for children age 7 and up. This unique opportunity will immerse you in the fascinating ecology and intrigue of beavers in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. \n\n\n\nYou’ll witness and learn about a range of captivating beaver activities\, such as sculpture-like gnawed tree stumps\, masterfully dug channels and impressive dams. These complex\, ever-changing beaver features make this wetland one of the most exciting habitats to explore. With more water held back in the landscape\, thriving freshwater life – from wetland birds and fish\, to unexpected surprises like insects feeding on sugar-rich sap – offers different encounters on every safari. \n\n\n\nWhile the nocturnal beavers themselves are highly unlikely to be seen on Beaver Enclosure Safaris\, the magic lies in seeing and understanding their incredible ecosystem engineering. DESCRIPTION:An autumnal wildlife photography adventure!\n\n\n\nKids (and their grown ups!) are invited on an adventure of wildlife discovery and photography at National Trust Wallington with Wild Intrigue!  \n\n\n\nWrap up warm and join us to discover secrets and top tricks to becoming an expert wildlife photographer. You will learn how understanding animal behaviour can help you get the perfect photo whilst taking care of wildlife\, and how to compose your photos to show just how beautiful “everyday” nature really is. \n\n\n\nIf we have rainy weather on the day\, we can head to woods to make the most of ‘moody’ autumnal scenes and colours\, and tuck up in the Wallington wildlife hide for a photography workshop. \n\n\n\nAll cameras welcome\, including camera-phones!  \n\n\n\nWe’re delighted to host this Mini Exped as part of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and Parker Harris Earth Photo Exhibition 2024\, which NT Wallington are hosting between 14th September to 3rd November. \n\n\n\nThis Wild Intrigue Mini Exped is in partnership with National Trust Wallington\, we are delighted to have special access into the estate to host this experience. The National Trust have generously offered ticket holders to this event complimentary day access into the Wallington estate to enjoy exploring the grounds. \n\n\n\nSuitable for ages 7-11. Our Dusk Beaver Safaris will return in early Summer 2025 to watch the beavers and experience the tranquility of their wetland habitat – find out more here. \n\n\n\nOur Beaver Enclosure Safaris at NT Wallington are among the most exciting wildlife experiences in the Wild Intrigue collection\, as you witness the profound impact this keystone species has on the surrounding plants\, animals\, and even the behaviour of water itself. \n\n\n\nBeavers continuously upgrade their wetland habitats\, quickly adapting to changes in water flow\, food availability\, and family dynamics. This means each Beaver Enclosure Safari will be truly unique\, with flexible itineraries to accommodate the busy beavers and abundant other wildlife. \n\n\n\nWild Intrigue had previously undertaken community engagement for a number of beaver restoration projects in northern England and Scotland. We are thrilled to now to share our expertise and insights from Britain and Europe in our home county of Northumberland\, in partnership with National Trust Wallington. \n\n\n\nIn the summer of 2024\, Wild Intrigue hosted 50 immersive beaver experiences at the Wallington Beaver Enclosure. We’re excited to continue sharing the evolving landscape and seasonal changes of the Wallington beaver wetland. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE\n\n\n\n– The beaver enclosure features rugged\, uneven terrain\, including some hilly areas that guests must navigate. The walking safari moves at a leisurely pace\, allowing guests to fully experience the diverse wetland environment. Two-way mirror windows\, photography ports and gimbal heads give you the best chance of capturing those perfect images\, whilst luxury seats and complimentary refreshments make you feel right at home. \n\n\n\nA variety of the highest quality seeds and nuts are always topped up in the feeding station\, providing a balanced diet for wild visitors and supporting local businesses. Through the provision of high quality\, varied food\, the hide welcomes a rich array of species\, with fluttering wings and pitter-pattering squirrel footsteps often the accompanying soundtrack. \n\n\n\nOf course the wildlife of Haweswater is just that – wild!
