SUMMARY:Breakfast with Red Squirrels
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in the arboreal life of the Red Squirrel\, in the mossy woodlands of RSPB Haweswater in the eastern Lake District National Park. Based from Wild Intrigue’s comfortable Woodland Wildlife Hide in beautiful Naddle Forest\, you will spend a morning watching the antics of Red Squirrels whilst enjoying a locally sourced\, cold breakfast board. \n\n\n\nWith intimate views from the hide\, and the shared expertise of a Wild Intrigue guide\, you will discover the fascinating ecology of the Red Squirrel and its woodland home along with an array of birdlife. \n\n\n\nScampering Red Squirrels in treetops were once a common sight throughout the whole of the UK\, with historic population estimated at 3.5 million individuals. Now\, due to the pressures of reduced food\, habitat availability and disease\, largely brought by the introduction of the North American Grey Squirrels\, the UK Red Squirrel population has dramatically declined to 120\,000 individuals\, with only around 15\,000 Reds remaining in England. \n\n\n\nBut there is hope! Scotland and Northern England remain strongholds for Red Squirrels\, with teams of dedicated conservationists working together to protect the scamping of Reds in our treetops for future generations to enjoy. \n\n\n\nThe work undertaken at RSPB Haweswater makes an outstanding contribution to Red Squirrel conservation in in the Lake District National Park. By protecting Naddle Forest\, a semi-ancient Atlantic oak woodland\, Reds have abundant foraging and nesting opportunities\, and by planting tens of thousands of fruit and nut bearing trees over the years\, this vital habitat will be expanded and protected to ensure the future survival of Reds Squirrels at Haweswater. \n\n\n\nWe are proud to host this experience at RSPB Haweswater. For every Breakfast with Red Squirrels ticket sold\, you will be helping to support the conservation of Red Squirrels at this beautiful reserve.

SUMMARY:Ouseburn Wild Talks: An evening with Neil & Leigh from Hill Top Farm
DESCRIPTION:Neil Heseltine and Leigh Weston run Hill Top Farm in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales\, where they continue the long Heseltine tradition of farming in Malham\, whilst transforming their land into a place for nature to thrive. Life in the rural idyll of the Dales is a far cry from Leigh’s urban upbringing in Wallsend\, but her Newcastle-roots have remained a strong part of her\, and her family’s\, identity. \n\n\n\nWith 1100-acres to care for\, Neil and Leigh have adapted their cattle and sheep farming in the past 20 years to enhance biodiversity\, develop species-rich hay meadows and restore natural processes. Neil also shares his valuable expertise in transformational farming through his appointment as Chair of the Yorkshire Dales National Park authority. \n\n \n\n\n\nYou may have recently watched Neil and Leigh’s inspiring\, nature-based approach to farming in the BBC documentary\, Saving Our Wild Isles\, narrated by David Attenborough. \n\n\n\n \n\nHosted at Ouseburn Farm as part of the Wild Talks winter series\, Wild Intrigue are delighted to host an illustrated discussion with Leigh and Neil about their farming journey\, their family’s encounters with nature at Hill Top Farm\, and to welcome their fresh perspective of wildness and urban nature management in Newcastle city. \n\n\n\n \n\nA Q&A will be hosted at the end of the discussion\, which we invite you to participate in. \n\n\n\n \n\nOpen and free to all\, light refreshments will be provided. Please book your free place in advance\, and arrive 10 minutes before the start time to get a cuppa and find a seat for a 6pm start. \n\nBOOK YOU FREE SPACE

SUMMARY:Spirit of the Wild
DESCRIPTION:Discover delectable nature restoration at Hepple Wilds\n\n\n\nNestled between the River Coquet and Simonside hills in beautiful Northumberland\, lies Hepple Wilds\, a landscape of restoration and rejuvenation. \n\n\n\nSince 2020\, this 4000 acre estate has embraced natural processes\, and is on a journey of ecosystem restoration by encouraging wildness\, with gentle intervention where required. Free-roaming Longhorn cattle\, Highland cattle and Exmoor Ponies have been introduced. These magnificent animals help to create diverse ecosystems by creating openings\, transporting seed and nutrients which encourages more diverse plants\, scrub and trees\, supporting a wealth of wildlife including moths\, beetles\, birds and bats. \n\n\n\nThere is another\, delicious benefit to nature restoration – the produce that we can enjoy from a healthy landscape. There are few that manage to capture the unique character of a wilder landscape more truly than the Hepple Spirits Co. \n\n\n\nOur “Spirit of the Wild” experience is an exploration of the wild and delicious benefits that are created by nature and Hepple Spirits Co and strengthened by the nature-led ethos and light-touch management of the Hepple Estate. \n\n\n\nThe evening will begin with a walking sunset safari in Hepple Wilds\, at the magical time of day when birds come home roost\, and crepuscular wildlife begins to emerge. \n\n\n\nThe richness of plants and restored wetland on the Hepple Estate supports an impressive stock of food for nocturnal wildlife. The wilder land offers opportunities for small mammals to manoeuvre away from Tawny Owls and Barn Owls\, frequently observed hunting on the estate\, along with Red Foxes and Badgers. The rich moth and insect life also supports bats including Common and Soprano Pipistrelles\, which hunt the diverse habitat edges. \n\n\n\nAfter exploring Hepple Wilds\, you will be guided in a fascinating tour and tasting at the Hepple Spirits distillery by Walter Riddell\, Founder of Hepple Spirits and Cultivator of Hepple Estate . You will discover how art\, science and nature combine in the distillery to produce spirits which hold the character and flavour of the botanicals used – many of which are harvested on the Hepple Estate. After sampling some of the drinks\, will have the opportunity to buy bottles to take home with you\, from the creator of Hepple Spirits himself. \n\n\n\nWe are incredibly proud to support the work of Hepple Wilds through our Spirit of the Wild experience.
