DESCRIPTION:Meet our Geordie Seafarers\n\n\n\nImmerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the worlds most inland seabird colony on Wild Intrigue’s Kittiwakes & Doughnuts experience. \n\n\n\nAfter spending half of the year out at sea\, the Tyne Kittiwakes return to nest on the ‘urban cliffs’ of the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside\, their calls a wild backdrop to the city soundscape. \n\n\n\nTo begin\, you will set off on a tour of the Quayside with your Wild Intrigue guide\, with stop-offs to see and hear about the fascinating urban lives of these true Geordie birds with a picture-perfect backdrop of the Tyne. You’ll discover their hidden stories\, from raising chicks to co-existing with humans\, and the impressive journeys they make to the coast each day for food. \n\n\n\nAfterwards\, take a seat in the beautiful St Mary’s Heritage Centre to relax with an exclusive talk by local ornithologist Daniel Turner\, to hear fascinating insights into the ecology\, history and lives of the Tyne Kittiwakes. Dan has surveyed the colony for 30 years\, which is always reflected in the passion and knowledge which he shares through his talks and involvement with the Tyne Kittiwake Partnership. \n\n\n\nWe’re delighted to link up with Proven Goods Co. for these experiences\, who supply their irresistible\, small batch doughnuts to enjoy during Dan’s talk (dietary requirements can be shared upon booking). \n\n\n\nKeen to share our urban Kittiwake kingdom with your little ones (aged 10 and under)? DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to return this year with our Family Kittiwakes & Doughnuts experience\, the perfect urban wild escape for those with younger children (aged 10 and under). \n\n\n\nGet ready for an exciting Quayside Kittiwake Safari with Wild Intrigue\, where you will be guided on an adventure over bridges and under towers to discover a Kittiwake Kingdom\, to watch these endearing seabirds raising their beautiful chicks on our urban ‘cliffs’. \n\n\n\nWe will head off on a mini adventure to meet the Tyne Kittiwakes on a short walk along the Quayside\, to talk about their incredible winter journeys on the wild open ocean – with plenty of time for questions!  \n\n\n\nWhen our tummies start to rumble we’ll settle in somewhere peaceful\, surrounded by wild Kittiwakes calls\, to read John Miles’ wonderful children’s book Kitty the Toon. Of course there will be scrumptious doughnuts to enjoy during the storytelling\, provided by local artisan bakery\, Proven Goods Co. \n\n\n\nAs we sit amongst the Quayside’s incredible architecture\, featured in this illustrated book\, we’ll explore how each of us are important characters in the story of the real-life story of the Tyne Kittiwakes too! \n\n\n\nOnce your adventure is complete\, you will be given a copy of Kitty the Toon to take home with you\, to continue your family’s discovery of the Tyne Kittiwakes and remember your wild urban adventure.  \n\n\n\nThe Tyne Kittiwakes are the most inland breeding colony of the Red Listed Black-legged Kittiwake in the world\, and are an intriguing and important part of our connected urban and coastal heritage. Tickets onto Wild Intrigue’s Kittiwake experiences always contribute to supporting the Tyne Kittiwake colony. \n\n\n\nIf your child is older\, or you believe they are ready for more in depth learning about the Kittiwakes\, take a look at our other Tyne Kittiwake experiences.
