KIELDER’S HIDDEN WILD SIDE

Hidden in Kielder’s beautiful landscape of forest and water, spectacular wildlifecan be discovered. 

Join Wild Intrigue to explore the wild side of Kielder at Bakethin Nature Reserveon a short walking safari. In summer, Kielder is home to an incredible diversity ofwoodland and freshwater birds, from Crossbill, Willow Warbler and Jay, to Dipper, Kingfisher and the magnificent Osprey. 

Below the leafy canopy lays a beautiful carpet of vibrant wild flowers and plants, including Bluebell, Greater Stitchwort, Cuckooflower and Water Aven in spring, attracting a diversity of colourful invertebrates such as Orange-tip and Small Tortoiseshell butterflies.

Freshwater pools support an incredible array of wildlife which can often be seen from the surface, such as Smooth Newts, and freshwater invertebrates below, and emerging from, the water.

These diverse features offer a rich habitat for mammals which roam this secluded corner of Kielder Forest, from Roe Deer to Otter and Water Vole.
