Ouseburn Festival | Birds on the Burn safari

July 5 @ 2:00 pm 2:45 pm

At the heart of the Ouseburn Valley runs one of the most intriguing habitats in urban Newcastle – the tidal Ouseburn. Influenced by the rise and fall of the North Sea, the burn changes daily – bringing with it an incredible array of wildlife, from Grey Seals and Otters to Salmon and Eels!

Most notable is the diversity of birds we get to enjoy along Ouseburn. Kingfishers perch from overhanging plants, Grey Wagtails nest in old drains, Mallard ducks and Moorhens raise their young, Curlew feed from the mudflats and the famous Mute Swans patrol their territory.

Join Brittany, from Wild Ouseburn, for a Birds on the Burn safari to discover the birdlife of Ouseburn, and to hear about some of the seasonal wildlife she encounters during her Wetland Bird Surveys.

Starting from outside the Cycle Hub, you’ll first look out onto the River Tyne, before following the Ouseburn upstream – ending at the Wild Ouseburn Hub just past Crawfords Bridge (between Ouseburn Farm and the Woodland).

Lush for all ages. No need to book, just come along for a 2pm start.

Part of Ouseburn Festival 2025.
