Join our journey to record the little-known wildlife of Redesdale, Northumberland
Redesdale is the Wild Intrigue hub, and we have had some wonderful wildlife encounters here. However wildlife records are hugely lacking in this region for important indicator species such as Eurasian Otter, Bats and Moths present, you could be forgiven for thinking Redesdale didn’t have a wild side. However we’re certain that there is wildlife present for all to enjoy, and conserve, in this rural corner of Northumberland – it is simply “hidden”.
Throughout 2019 we will be offering the communities of Redesdale the opportunity to attend free specialist training events with us, as well as a chance to enter into our brand new equipment loan scheme.
Some of our workshops will be indoor based, and some will be outdoor. It’s important to us that Hidden Redesdale is available for the whole community to take part in, so we have teamed up with MammalWeb and Durham University to create an online project folder which anyone can access from home to enjoy everyone’s camera trap photographs, and to even help identify species recorded!
With support from the Revitalising Redesdale Landscape Partnership, the Heritage Lottery Fund and ERIC North East, we will be organising a series of workshops for all ages to attend to discover our Hidden Redesdale. These will be focussed on three aspects of wildlife recording which enable us to find and identify elusive wildlife which may otherwise be unnoticed; these areas are camera trapping, moth trapping and bat detecting.
The magic of the Hidden Redesdale equipment loan scheme is that residents of Redesdale will now be able to find out which wildlife they share their gardens with, providing the opportunity to survey huge areas within Redesdale that would otherwise be unaccounted for!
