Bee Walk
18th June 2025 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Would you like to learn about the bumblebees that can be found in Wild Ouseburn, and contribute to local and national records, to help protect their future?
On Wednesday 18 June, 12.00-13.30 we will be taking a walk from City Stadium down to Ballast Hills and noting of all the Bumblebees we see along the way. James Common from the Natural History Society of Northumbria will be leading the session, and all records will feed into both Wild Ouseburn data and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s national scheme to monitor the abundance of bumblebees across the country.
We’d love to establish a group of people who would like to do this each month, through till September – you don’t need to have existing knowledge as we can learn together, but if you already know your Bombus lucorum from your Bombus hortorum then that’s great too! The surveys are a collaboration between Ouseburn Trust, Ouseburn Farm, Wild Intrigue and NHSN.
The information collected through BeeWalk surveys is integral to monitoring how bumblebee populations change through time, detecting early warning signs of declines, as well as contributing to important long-term monitoring of changes in response to changes in land-use and climate change.
Please meet at City Stadium near the coffee cart and the newly planted meadow. What3Words ///clean.intro.mice
