Meet Ouseburn’s Sand Martins!
Come along on a mini adventure with Wild Ouseburn guides as we explore the fascinating world of Newcastle’s only urban Sand Martin colony!
On this short, relaxed safari, we’ll visit the sandstone wall beneath The Free Trade Inn – home to a lively group of these amazing little birds, as well as the newly installed Sand Martin Bank. You’ll get the chance to watch them swoop and chatter as they zip through the air, and learn all about their unique lifestyle right here in the city.
Along the way, we’ll share the surprising history of the colony and chat about what the future might hold for these incredible travellers who migrate all the way from Africa to raise their families in the Ouseburn Valley.
