Help us design the future of Wild Ouseburn

In January 2024, the Wild Ouseburn project was established by Wild Intrigue after years of exploring and sharing the vibrant wildlife of the Lower Ouseburn Valley. It quickly became clear that this part of Newcastle is full of life, with both opportunities and challenges to protect and enhance this vital urban wildlife corridor.

As we connected with communities across the valley, we discovered a special ingredient that makes this place truly remarkable – its people. The engagement of local residents in the Wild Ouseburn project’s first year has been heartwarming, diverse, and powerful. From dedicated wildlife surveys to species-focused studies, the creation of local interest groups, and pioneering work like Newcastle’s first urban Sand Martin bank, the community has played a vital role.

If you share a passion for making the Lower Ouseburn Valley even wilder, then you are part of the Wild Ouseburn community. As the project heads into the second year, it is evolving to reflect the varied interests of the local area. To help plan the year ahead and determine the future direction of Wild Ouseburn, we invite you to join us for a workshop on Sunday 9th March.

During this session, we will review some of the previous year’s wildlife data and observations, and identify key areas of focus for 2025. If possible, we encourage you to visit the Wild Ouseburn Exhibition at the BottleWorks in advance, where some of the project’s findings will be presented. We look forward to seeing you at the workshop and continuing our rewilding journey for the Lower Ouseburn Valley.
